What's new in Reportive 9.3

Reportive Analyzer 9.3

Query-based keywords

There is no more need to use a filtered axis in a keyword. A query will be executed to retrieve the associated data if only one item is available. As a result you can also use indicators in the keywords to display totals.

Weighting formula

To simplify the use of constants for simulation purposes, a new simplified formula called "Weighting" is available in order the convert an existing indicator based on the constant (that can be detailed by an axis). A new One-Click formula is also available in the table and chart placement dialog in order to easily convert your indicators for simulation use.

Forced items in the ranking

You can force the selection of specific items when doing a ranking on an axis. As an example the following image shows how to force the item "BMW" when computing the Top5 rank of brands:

Displaying formula errors directly in the component

The MDX errors are directly displayed in the component in which the occur (table, chart, gauge...) to help you locate them and fix your formulas.

Total computation

In addition to the standard visual total computation, you can with this new release:
  • Use an existing formula in order to custom computations (min, max, Market total...).

Custom total computing the MAX value

  • Use the item name of the left axis as a total display name:

Chart total

You can now detail the total item in addition to existing items. This feature is mostly useful with 100% bar charts.

Stacked column chart and negative values

Stacked column charts, like other chart types (pie, radar...), are not designed to handle negative values. In some cases, Stacked columns remain the best display presentation for the data and the new release now supports the display of negative values on Stacked column charts:

Displaying integer values

Chart automatic number format support

This feature applies a number format automatically to the Y axis depending on the number format of the current indicator. Using indicator switch axes, this feature will change automatically the display format when switching from integer, float to percentage or other custom formats.

Axis sort order

With this new release you can modify the default display order of any placed axis in the tables and chart. This feature is basically interesting to display time axes in reverse order to see the latest data first:

New "List" component

9.3 Service Pack 2 introduces a new component which allows thanks to a specific cube model to display huge fact tables in a few seconds.

Hiding project instances

You can now hide proejct instances in the "Workspace Explorer". If you have a workspace with several projects, this feature will let you switch more easily from one project to another. This user preference is saved and applied to all the workspaces that you will open.

Comments

All project instances can now have an associated comment.

New Studio components

Reportive Studio 9.3 includes by default 4 new components:

  • Constant: lets you define a constant parameter for your project. If the constant is a static value, then the corresponding graph branch will never be reexecuted (except if you clear the cache). If the constant is based on a project configuration variable or system environment variable (e.g. %MYVARIABLE%), then the "Refresh Data" command will update to whole branch.
  • Convert to HTML: lets you transform the output of the production nodes (Office documents) to convert them into HTML. This component can convert any type of Office document (Excel workbook, Word document or PowerPoint presentation) into HTML using the default Office HTML settings.

  • Mail Delivery: allows the production component to send mail with dynamic attachments to the recipients. Attachements can be any Office document, PDF file, Reportive Analyzer package or any external file. Be careful not to exceed the size limitation of your mail server.

  • End Point: this component is a concentration point that will let you execute more than one graph.

Import Reportive Analyzer packages into Reportive Studio

You can now import a Reportive Analyzer package inside Reportive Studio. This feature will import the report definition and all the report's dependencies (saved into the MyDocuments directory of the workspace). The cube file (if there is one) is not imported. The goal of the import feature is to let you connect a report definition to a "Cube Builder" instance inside Reportive Studio and to distribute this up-to-date report to end-users.

New Reportive Data Viewer

Reportive Data Viewer was redesigned to let you better understand your data and easily discover inconsistencies.

The new Reportive Data Viewer

  • Quick analysis of your dataset with number of axes per type (market, time, measure), number of items per axis and the presence of special values (missing value, total, error value).

  • The "paragraph" command helps you check the presence of space characters in your data. The "Tiffany Blue" background color on the axis warns you that some items have leading and/or trailing spaces.

  • The "Red" background shows you the empty values.

  • Clicking on an axis moves the horizontal scrollbar so that the corresponding column is shown on the screen.

  • The "Hide" button lets you organize which axes need to be seen and reduce the amount of data displayed on the screen.

  • The "Data Quality" tab lets you analyse the distribution of the items and detect the item frequency.

Query enhancements

Reportive Studio 9.3 includes also new enhancements on 3 query components:

  • Excel Query: can expose the extraction file/folder parameters as instance parameters. You can then use a "File Shortcut" to connect to a query instance.

  • Text Query: can expose the input text file as instance parameters. You can then use a "File Shortcut" to connect to a query instance.

  • SQL Query (Advanced): now supports the advanced Reportive data typing and let you fix type errors from your database.

Cube Builder

9.3 Service Pack 2 introduces new features in the computation engine:

  • Keep Server Cube: Let you feed the server cube without building it from scratch. This option let you keep server-side optimizations,

  • Virtual Dimension: Let you link several times a fact table with a given dimension,

  • Custom Rollups and Unary Operators: These features are now supported to let you easily build financial cubes.

Computation Engine

9.3 Service Pack 1 introduces new features in the computation engine:

  • New Counter functions: You have at your disposal 4 counting functions: "Count", "DistinctCount", "CountIf" and "DistinctCountIf". You can also take into account (or not) null values.

  • Range Join: This feature lets you use classical joins to configure a join where a left key is within the range defined by two right keys (min, max). This case is supported for market (long and double) and date axes.

New Range Join applied to IP resolution

Table alignment

Using this feature, you can change the alignment of the table within its cell for a better visual effect:

Centered

Right aligned
